So, I finally took the plunge. I finally started a site of my own in all seriousness to try my own web comic/independent book publishing/comic book blog/art blog/merchandise store… that was a mouthful. It almost sounds like this site is going to have ADHD. Well, to be honest I do… at least in a creative sense. This site will allow me to do the many things I have been doing for years as well as allow me to do what I have wanted to do for years all at the whim of my creative interest.
Last year I started a web comics called “Ten Cent Sammy’s”. It wasn’t anything great but it did teach me a lot about how sequential art and planning a comic page works. I tried to do one comic a week and I think I lasted about two months before it fell prey to life in general. Upon it’s hiatus, I had another child, became increasingly busy at my 9 to 5, decided to relocate my family 840 miles away and well, studied up on how to start a small business. Some people would say why not wait until you are settled? But I am not one of those people who can wait. It’s not that I am impatient (even though I am), it’s more of if I don’t just jump right in, then I will eventually talk myself out of it. So I say now is the perfect time.
I have plenty of projects lined up for this year and hopefully I get a chance to get through a quarter of them. One thing I am definitely going to practice this year with my art work is taking it slow and making it look good even if I have to redraw it five or six times. It has to be the very best that I can do or else it will be no good. Right now I am converting a few short stories I have written over the past few years into scripts. I also have a few short stories from some of my favorite authors in mind that I have been meaning to tackle for a few years as well. Once I start getting some artwork I am happy with, I will start posting it. I am also hoping that once it’s all done to be able to put it together to sell. I am not sure in which format or style yet but I will, trust me.
Another thing I am looking forward to doing but further down the line is to design and sell some t-shirts. I know it is kind of the “in” thing to do now especially within the web comic scene, but I have always wanted to open my own t-shirt business but knew I wouldn’t be able to survive with just t-shirts alone. I needed something else. Something that would tie it all together in a way where the shirts were unique to what I was trying to do and for those of you who are amazing enough to buy one, would be able to wear something unique that hopefully furthers your reading experience.
Now, I say all of this but the truth is I only have a small script an a handful of short stories at the time of this entry. But in order to be able to start working towards certain goals and get a handle of basically living online as well as how wordpress works I had to start early. I do plan on trying to make the majority of my income by selling things I myself make but in the meantime, since I have nothing, I have set up an Amazon Store. From what I know right now I think I can dictate what is in this store. So instead of begging and stealing for donations, I figured I would still work for your hard earned money by writing recommendations and posting the item in the store. I figured a recommendation would be better than a review since everyone write reviews but rarely do you find a good recommendation.
To fill in the gaps, I figured I would write an article every once in a while and maybe post some pictures I have been working on here and there. I was thinking about posting my best pages of “ten Cent Sammy’s” as well as a couple of other items I feel went well.
Please keep stopping in and if you think you may like an item I discuss here, please show your support by purchasing it through my store. I do truly appreciate your time and I will do my best to get some work done and posted. Stay tuned!!
